“We’ve got the setting – sunshine, fresh air, the team behind us. So let’s play two!” -Ernie Banks
“Love is the most important thing in the world, but baseball is pretty good, too.” -Yogi Berra
June 2018 – I’ve been in love with baseball ever since Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris chased Babe Ruth for the all-time single-season record for most home runs. I played Little League, but I surmise I was not good enough to play high school baseball, though I served as the equipment manager for the varsity team for a year before moving on to play tennis. I was brought up as a Yankee fan, like my father before me, and continue to root for the team throughout the seasons, good and bad. Through the years, baseball and the Yankees have been a constant feature in my life.
But I am more than a mere Yankee fan; I am a baseball fan. I will watch the game anywhere at any opportunity, regardless of who is playing. Baseball is, for me, the perfect metaphor for living. If you know baseball, you know life. It has a sublime beauty all its own, which has been described by writers much better than I. With any luck at all to supplement the little skill I have, this particular aspect of my website gives me an opportunity to share with you the joy I feel when I watch the game. -twl

“I see great things in baseball. It’s our game – the American game.” -Walt Whitman
